As part of a large-scale reconstruction program at a Swedish paper-pulp plant, SketchArt Engineering was commissioned to design a three-tier boiler service platform manufactured from high-grade stainless steel. The goal was to modernize access for maintenance and improve worker safety around existing boilers, ducts and pipework without interrupting production.
We developed a compact, modular layout that ties into the current structure with a mix of bolted and welded connections. The geometry resolves tight clearances around valves and insulation, keeps walkways unobstructed, and provides safe approach to instrumentation and service points. Anti-slip grating, toe-boards, handrails, stairs and self-closing gates were incorporated where required by the plant’s safety rules.
The engineering scope covered 3D modelling of the environment, clash checks, strength calculations and FEA to verify load-bearing capacity, local stresses at connections and vibration behaviour near rotating equipment. Load cases included maintenance loads, concentrated tool loads and access loads on stairs and landings; deflection limits were set to protect attached equipment and maintain comfortable walking surfaces.
