Overview

With the support of European funding, a state-of-the-art waste recycling and sorting plant was developed in Latvia to address growing environmental challenges and sustainability objectives. The facility was designed to meet the highest efficiency standards in material sorting, significantly contributing to the reduction of landfill waste and the promotion of a circular economy.

The project included the detailed engineering, design, and installation of sixteen belt conveyors of varying lengths and widths, each tailored to handle specific waste streams. These conveyors were complemented by three custom-designed platforms, including one dedicated to an advanced optical sorting machine and another connected to a specialized chute system for optimized material flow. This tailored configuration ensured reliable operation while providing flexibility to accommodate future capacity expansions.

Initially designed to process 8,000 tons of municipal waste annually, the plant’s modular system architecture allows scaling up to handle as much as 30,000 tons per year. The facility incorporates advanced sorting technologies capable of recovering valuable recyclable materials such as paper, cardboard, plastics, glass, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, inert fractions, and RDF (Refuse-Derived Fuel).

In addition to technical performance, the plant was engineered with sustainability in mind. By maximizing the recovery of recyclable resources, it reduces the need for raw material extraction and lowers carbon emissions associated with waste disposal. The recovered RDF further contributes to renewable energy production, offering a secondary benefit to the energy sector.
