Overview

The construction of a new coal handling terminal in Riga required the development of specialized bulk material handling equipment to meet the high operational demands of a modern port. SketchArt Engineering was responsible for the design and implementation of key equipment that ensures safe, reliable, and efficient handling of coal during unloading, processing, and ship loading operations.

The project included two mobile belt conveyors and a dedicated magnetic frame station engineered to improve coal processing quality. A unique movable frame with a powerful industrial magnet was installed above the main conveyor belt. This system effectively removes metal contaminants from the coal stream, preventing equipment damage and guaranteeing consistent product quality. The integration of this feature provided both operational safety and extended equipment service life.

The coal handling process was carefully designed for efficiency and precision. Coal is first loaded into large receiving hoppers, which transfer the material onto the belt conveyor. From there, the coal passes through a shredding system to achieve uniform fraction size, making the material suitable for further handling and storage. Finally, a radial belt conveyor system forms evenly distributed stockpiles, ready for seamless loading onto ships.

By rethinking the coal handling process, the system not only optimized material flow but also reduced operational downtime and manual intervention. The radial stacking conveyor design allowed for flexible stockpile management, minimizing environmental impact and improving the logistical efficiency of the terminal.
